Try Journaling
It's like raking the dead leaves out of your brain.
Journaling is a way to talk to yourself. Often, you don't really know how you think or feel about something until you get it down on paper. Right now, open your journal and write down a problem you are having difficulty with, then close the journal. Go about your day, and at the end of the day, open your journal and write down several solutions to that problem. Write quickly. See how smart you are? You already knew what needed to happen. Trust your self to know!
What Do I Need to Start Journaling?
You don't need any special tools--a fancy pen and expensive journals are necessary. A simple spiral notebook, a pen you feel comfortable with and your willingness to write on a regular basis is all you need. A regular basis doesn't have to be every day, but the more you talk to yourself in your journal, the better you will get to know the most important person in your life--YOU!
There are no rules to journaling--it's wide open. (a couple of suggestions: use ink, not pencil and always date the page)
Get in Sync with Yourself
A great way to get started is to ask yourself a question. Here's a great question: Who am I?
Listing all the roles you play in your life is helpful. You can go on to write about each of those roles. Here are some examples.
Artist
Mother
Daughter
Aunt
Wife
Lover
Writer
Friend
Boss
Worker
Who you are is the beginning of awareness about yourself and awareness is the first step towards change and growth.
Have fun!
